The Lovers
92x46cm
acrylics on canvas
This is the completion of the previously posted Warm Tones.
It was inspired by Klimt's The Kiss. Klimt is one of my favourite artists and when I was in Vienna I visited The Belvedere which is now a museum of fine art. The Kiss was hanging there and it was superb. I could have just stood and looked at it for hours. So when Warm Tones suggested the vague shape of the lovers outlined I used the idea of Klint's painting for The Lovers. After intensifying the depth of field I simply added some hints of colour to finish it off and keep it simple.

For Ever After
25x25cm

Here are the "before" and "after" shots.

Saturday, May 23, 2009

I worked on this one today.
I have added some linework and darker tones around the central figures.
I finally finished Elephant Walk.
I added highlights, darker tones and more linework.
I'm quite happy with the way this has turned out.

I've been struggling the last few weeks in a kind of painter's block. Hopefully I am out of it now.

25x25cm Acrylics on MDF

I am also working on this smaller one. This is up to the second stage.
I have added linework over the initial abstract.
I am calling it Elephant Walk.

The white chalk lines will disappear in the next stage.

I have started another painting using warm tones.
This is over a background on which I have piped contour lines.
I think this is the way it will go.
Next step, contemplation of what it will develop into.

A reworked version of the previous post.
I am still not totally sure of it but I think
I have given it a clearer focus.
It remind me of storm clouds rolling in over a large body of water at sunrise.

Worked on this new one today.
Playing around with just two colours plus white.
Working on blending whilst maintaining contrast.
Not sure what it will develop into at this stage.
I'll have to study it for a few days to see if it is happy as it is or wants to be something different.
We'll see.

I spent some time studying the shapes on the canvas till slowly
some figures emerged.
After outlining them in white pastel, I started drawing and rubbing,
darkening and enhancing the drawings, until the figures evolved.
I am quite pleased with the results so far.

Inorganic paroxysm

A paroxysm is a sudden violent attack of pain, rage or laughter.
To be inorganic is to be devoid of organised structures.

I leave it to you to decide which it is.

Dreamflight
101x76cm
acrylics on stretched canvas

When I was young I used to dream I was flying.
I can still feel the rush of being lifted into the air and swooping down.
If humans could fly I know what it would feel like.
